How to use it

Close by, before you open it.

Today’s Photo on the Home Screen. Take a Photo in Control Centre and on the Lock Screen. And Scia in the Photos app’s share sheet.
Keep Scia on the iPhone itself, and it is one press away, with no hunting for the app.

Today’s Photo, on the Home Screen

Your Home Screen shows one photo a day from Scia’s bookshelf: why that one was chosen (“three years ago today”, say), where it was taken, the date, and one short question. Tap it, and that photo’s chapter opens, ready for you to talk.

It never shows how many are waiting or how long it has been since you last talked. It simply offers, and never hurries you. The photo changes when the date does, and even if you leave the app closed, it shows a different face each morning for about a week.

  1. Touch and hold the Home Screen

Hold a finger on an empty spot, tap Edit at the top left, then Add Widget.

  2. Search for MimiSeka

Type “MimiSeka” in the search field at the top, and choose MimiSeka Scia.

  3. Choose a size and place it

Today’s Photo comes in two sizes. In the small one the photo fills the space; in the wide one the words sit beside it. Choose one and tap Add Widget.

Until you have kept a photo, it says only “Take a photo, then talk about it”, and a tap opens Scia. Once a photo is on the bookshelf, it starts to appear from the next day.

With VoiceOver, touching the widget reads “Look back.”, then why it was chosen, the place and the date, and ends with “Want to talk about it?”. In StandBy and while the iPhone is locked, the photo and the words are hidden.

Take a Photo, in Control Centre

When you want to take a photo, there is no need to go back to the Home Screen and look for the icon. One press opens Scia’s camera. It can go in Control Centre, or in one of the buttons at the bottom of the Lock Screen (iOS 18 or later).

If the iPhone is locked when you press it, Scia opens on the camera once Face ID or your passcode has unlocked it.

  1. Open Control Centre

Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen. With VoiceOver, touch the very top row of the screen, then swipe down with three fingers.

  2. Add the control

Tap + at the top left, then Add a Control at the bottom. Type “MimiSeka” in the search field and choose Take a Photo; it goes into the first free space.

To put it on the Lock Screen, touch and hold the Lock Screen, then tap Customise and Lock Screen. Remove one of the buttons at the bottom with −, then tap + in the empty space and choose Take a Photo.

From a button, or a tap on the back

On an iPhone with an Action button (iPhone 15 Pro and later), it can go on the button on the side, too. In Settings, open Action Button, swipe across to Controls, and choose Take a Photo. Press and hold the button, and Scia’s camera opens.

The iPhone’s Shortcuts app also has Scia’s Take a Photo with MimiSeka Scia. Make a shortcut with just that one action, and you can open it by saying its name to Siri, or assign it to Back Tap.

  1. Make the shortcut

In the Shortcuts app, make a new shortcut, tap Add Action, search for “MimiSeka”, and add Take a Photo with MimiSeka Scia. Give it a name that is easy to say.

  2. Assign it to Back Tap

In Settings, go to Accessibility, Touch, Back Tap, then choose Double Tap or Triple Tap and pick the shortcut you just made. Tap the back of the iPhone twice (or three times), and Scia’s camera opens.

There is also Take a Photo in the menu that appears when you touch and hold Scia’s icon on the Home Screen.

From Share, in the Photos app

A photo you are looking at in the Photos app can be given a description without opening Scia. Choose Open in MimiSeka Scia from the share sheet, and a description is written there and then, and read aloud.

  1. Choose it from Share

Open a photo in the Photos app, tap the share button, and choose Open in MimiSeka Scia from the row of apps. If it is not there, add it from More at the end of the row.

  2. Listen

The description is ready in a few seconds and read aloud. With VoiceOver, a two-finger double tap (the Magic Tap) plays it again.

  3. Choose what to do with it

Copy takes just the description, to paste into an email or a message. Post to X with ALT posts the photo with the description as its alternative text. To keep it in the camera roll with its description, choose Save in MimiSeka: Scia opens, and the photo, with its description, is added to the “MimiSeka” album.

You can send one photo at a time. A description made here counts the same as one made in the app. If something goes wrong, open Scia once, then try again.

While you look for the app,
the light moves on.
——So keep it within reach.
